How to Rise Above Vacation Envy

March 14, 2019

Have you been paying extra attention to your coworkers being away on vacation? You may be feeling cooped up at work and ready for some time off yourself. You may even already have plans coming up in the near future. Taking time off from work is important not only for your health but also for your productivity, and staying motivated at work knowing you have upcoming plans or while your coworkers are out can be challenging. Here are some tips to keep you moving forward until you can enjoy a work-free vacation!

Create a to-do list

What better way to keep you on track than a to-do list? Although writing out a list of all your duties may seem like it’ll add more stress, keeping yourself organized can actually mitigate stress. By sorting out your to-dos, you may find that you have a lot to keep you busy throughout the week. When writing out your list, try to make it fun! Using stickers, colored pens, and/or highlights can make it seem less like a chore and more like a craft. The best part is after each task is done, you have the satisfaction of crossing it off your list.

Dress for success

Each work environment has a different dress code. However, you can almost never go wrong with dressing business casual. This doesn’t mean a pant suit to dress the part. It simply means you’re ready to work and complete your tasks for the day. If you wear a uniform to work, making sure your uniform is washed and wrinkle free can help you feel fresh and prepared for the day. Studies show that how you dress can speak volumes about your personality in the workforce. You’d be surprised at what the right clothes can do for the part!

Stay off social media

Don’t torture yourself by looking at others spending their time out of the office! Try staying off of social media during peak vacation times. On your down time, try reading a book, relaxing with some TV, or completing a project you never got to finish. Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying a weekend off or some vacation time yourself.

Spend your down time outdoors

If the weather is nice, spend some time outdoors! Scheduling outdoor activities can help distract you from the hustle and bustle of your work week. Doing activities during the week can break you from your routine and provide you with a little vitamin D. Vitamin D can help improve your overall mood and support a healthy immune system, brain, nervous system, and much more. Just 5-10 minutes of sun 2-3 times a week helps your body produce the right amount of Vitamin D.

Plan your next vacation

If you don’t already have anything planned, why not give yourself something to look forward to? Plan some time off where you can refrain from checking your emails and thinking about what’s going on in the office. Having a set time to unwind planned can be just what you need to get your tasks done, so you can enjoy your vacation!
