Stepping Stones to a Milestone: IHC Employee Reaches her Goal

May 18, 2017

Making the decision to continue your education while balancing a full-time work schedule is a huge commitment.  We are proud to congratulate one of our very own employees who has put in the long hours and hard work to turn stepping stones into a milestone.

Congratulations to Priscilla Garcia, our Human Resources Assistant for the completion of her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Incarnate Word.

Priscilla joined the Integrated Human Capital team in October 2015 after making the decision to leave an 8-year long career as an Aesthetician.  After experiencing two layoffs in her field, she made it her goal to build a career that offered stability, self-fulfillment, and growth.

Her first step in attaining her goals was enrolling at the University of Incarnate Word in their Human Resource degree program.  Her next step was contacting Integrated Human Capital for a position as a Staffing Supervisor Assistant.

As Staffing Supervisor Assistant, Priscilla was hired as a temp-to-hire employee to support the Staffing Supervisors with processing interviews, assisting candidates and learning the onboarding process for all new employees.  After only a few weeks, Priscilla was promoted as a permanent employee and then later proved to be a perfect fit for the Human Resources Assistant role working under IHC’s Senior Human Resources Manager.

How do you balance your career and school work?

It was definitely a challenge to juggle working full-time along with full-time school, however, I prioritized what needed to be done on a daily and weekly basis.  Being organized in every aspect of my life and setting short-term goals has helped me stay focused and on track.

What did you find most challenging?

Sacrificing family time and not having the freedom to participate in a spur of the moment gathering with family and friends.

What advice would you give someone who is considering continuing education?

I’ve only been working in the HR field for a short time, but I have witnessed the amount of continuing education one must do to stay up to date with new laws and regulations.  Professional development is going to be a constant in any field for one to stay competitive.  My advice…keep going and don’t stop.  The personal and professional rewards will all be worth it!
