Learn to Work with These 3 Personality Types to Make Your Next Project a Success

No matter your profession, you’re going to have to work with others. Although dealing with different ideas and personalities can change how you might do your work, learning to adjust and cohabitate with the people you work with can make for a more productive outcome. When joining a group project, assembly line, or any position that requires you to work with a team, it’s important to remind yourself that you are all after a common goal! Here are a few tips for working with various personality types.

Working with the Lone Ranger

These types of coworkers are used to doing things on their own and aren’t typically used to working with other people. If you can, allow the individual to meet with you one-on-one during a time that works best for them. Allowing them to communicate their ideas fully will help you segment out which part of the project their expertise will best fit. To keep the project on time before the deadline, try scheduling check point meetings for you both to discuss the progress you’ve made, allowing your partner to have some independence while still being able to complete the project together.

Working with the Natural Born Leader

When working with someone that is used to taking control of the situation, delegating pieces of the projects and ideas comes naturally to them. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you’ve been thinking about ideas that can help enhance the project. Give your ideas with confidence and don’t be afraid to explain how your expertise can help produce the end result! If you feel yourself doubting your ideas, remind yourself that you’re there to help with what you are good at, and everyone wants to make the project successful.

Working with Everyone’s Best Friend

Chances are we all have that one coworker that gets along with everyone and strives to make everyone’s day a good one. When working on a project with them, you may find it hard to stay on task when you’re conversing about non work-related topics. Try encouraging your coworkers to brainstorm with you to help steer the conversation back on track. By encouraging them to complete the assignment while still being able to converse here and there, it can lead to a productive and enjoyable experience.

Remembering these helpful tips can help ease your way into learning how to work with your co-workers and help bring out their expertise in the process. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each worker can lead for a quicker, less stressful completion on your next project!
